How to Begin the Love is Dead Quest

You'll automatically encounter this quest shortly after arriving in Act 8.

Travel to The Sarn Encampment, the central town area for the act.

Speak with Clarissa, who will ask for your help.

She reveals that she believes the Ankh of Eternity can restore Tolman soul through an ancient Azmerian ritual.

She begs you to venture into The Quay to retrieve the relic. Agree, and the quest begins.

Step 1-Recover the Ankh of Eternity

Tips for this Area

Act 8 early zones can hit surprisingly hard-be sure your defenses are up to date.

Movement skills and defensive flasks go a long way here.

Life- and resistance-heavy gear dramatically reduces the danger; even small upgrades make this zone safer.

The Ankh of Eternity is always placed deep in the zone at a shrine surrounded by several enemy packs. Rare or mini-boss monsters often spawn nearby, so be ready for tough pulls.

Once you secure the Ankh, your quest log directs you to find Clarissa deeper within the Quay at the Resurrection Site.

Step 2-Deliver the Ankh to Clarissa

Locate Clarissa at the ritual area. When you hand her the Ankh, she immediately begins the resurrection spell.

Unfortunately, the ritual takes a dark turn. Rather than restoring Tolman, the Ankh's corrupted magic twists him into a horrifying undead creature. The ritual collapses, unleashing waves of enemies onto the arena.

Step 3-Defeat Tolman and the Undead Waves

This encounter plays out in two parts:

1.Fighting Off the Undead

You'll first deal with multiple waves of shambling enemies. They're frail individually but dangerous in numbers.

Survival Tips:

Keep moving-never allow yourself to get boxed in.

Use AoE abilities or mobility skills like Leap Slam, Whirling Blades, or Flame Dash to stay safe.

If your character feels weak here, consider upgrading defenses or damage through Path of Exile items or better gear. Even small resistance increases can make a huge difference.

2. Facing Zombie Tolman

After the adds thin out, Tolman himself becomes the main threat.

Guidelines for the Tolman Fight:

Keep distance whenever possible-his melee swings hit hard.

Eliminate nearby adds before focusing on Tolman so you don't get overwhelmed.

Use flasks wisely; some minions in this area deal chaos or elemental damage.

When Tolman finally falls, Clarissa rushes to his side, devastated by what's happened.

Step 4-Speak With Clarissa After the Fight

Talk to Clarissa once the battle ends. She makes the grim decision to destroy the Ankh for good, vowing that no one else will suffer like Tolman did. Grief-stricken, she returns to the Encampment.

Step 5-Return to the Sarn Encampment

Back in town, speak with Clarissa one final time. She thanks you for helping her give Tolman peace and gives you your reward:
